Thanks for this article! May I be so bold and share my naiveté: what exactly IS AN EMAIL LIST? I keep on hearing how important they are and I'm not sure WHAT they are. If I am a writer but not "selling" anything, what is my email list, other than saying come read my stuff on Medium? I'm confused.
